Kalsec® Announces EPA Labeling Approval of BrowseBan™

16 January 06

An Effective, Non lethal, Cost Effective Deterrent to Crop Damage from Deer
Kalsec® Inc, Kalamazoo Michigan, announces that The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) has granted approval for the use of BrowseBan™ on labeled agricultural crops.
BrowseBan™ is derived from a natural plant compound and can now be used to ward off deer
and protect high value vegetable crops from browsing by hungry deer. Nearly 300,000 acres of
such crops are grown in Michigan with animal damage estimated in the millions of dollars.

BrowseBan™ is spray applied and is compatible with a variety of commonly used pesticides.
This allows farmers to use BrowseBan™ as part of their normal spray schedule, and avoid
additional application costs. BrowseBan™ and the recommended spray schedule have been in
development for over five years in cooperative farm trials plots. According to Steve Middlemas,
Kalsec®’s BrowsebanTM Product Manager, “Results on vegetable crops have been excellent and
farmers found that BrowsebanTM fits well with current cultural practices.”

BrowsebanTM provides a non lethal alternative to reducing deer browsing damage, which results
in a win-win situation for the Michigan crop producers, hunters and environmentalists. “Because
deer and deer hunting generate considerable dollars in revenues for the state of Michigan and
Michigan retail businesses, it is important that these resources and agricultural crops be
protected” states Middlemas. “Providing an effective non lethal tool to help the farmer improve
crop yield opportunity is a benefit to everyone’s resources.”

Farmers have been looking for a cost effective means of reducing deer browsing on commercial
crops- recent EPA approval means that they can now make use of BrowseBan™.
